Flames' recruiting update

Seemingly satisfied with the roster of players coming back next year, UIC has been fairly quiet on the recruiting front.

Dan Laffee, of the Prep Report, said he hasn’t seen Flames coaches at many high school games recently. He said with former Farragut power forward Elliott Poole and Maryland-Eastern Shore transfer Justin Bowen sitting out, and the possibility of former Farragut point guard Marcetteaus McGee overcoming legal obstacles, UIC appears to be set with next year’s roster.

McGee was charged with second-degree sexual assault and intimidating a victim in Madison, Wis. last summer. Jury selection for his trial is scheduled for May. He will likely get a scholarship, if he is cleared of the charges.

Some recent reports, however, have the Flames interested in two local seniors—Hillcrest guard Shelby Jordan and Hubbard swingman Othyus Jeffers. Loyola, DePaul, Valparaiso and Wisconsin are interested in Jordan. Loyola is also interested in Jeffers, with Utah coming on late.

The 6-foot-3-inch Jordan averaged 22.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 5.2 steals per game at Hillcrest. He suffered a dislocated left shoulder late in the regular season, but returned for the state playoffs.

The 6-foot-5-inch Jeffers led Hubbard to the state supersectionals as he averaged 25.5 points and 17 rebounds per contest.

According to ChicagoHoops.com, UIC is keeping an eye out for underclassmen. The Flames have expressed interest in Farragut junior forward Ollie Bailey. The 6-foot-7-inch Bailey is ranked as the 11th-best junior in the state, and is described as “true banger,” and he “likes the contact inside.”
